idol with minae ; 02 - AKB48 new era is back!

It's been a while since I spoke about my favourite idol songs recently, so I'm going to do a little roundup of what has been on repeat for me the past few months. Aside from listening to my discover weekly and release radar playlists when I work from home every Friday, I haven't really been seeking out new music. That's okay, as I don't really feel like getting into new artists right now lol. It's been nice to rediscover songs I had long forgotten from years ago, and there are a few songs that are just so summer that I can't help but go back to them whenever I need a boost of summer nostalgia. So this will be a round up of the idol songs I've been loving, old and new.

♡ suki-ish - AKB48
I feel it would be a disservice to not put this song first, as it's the reason I felt inspired to make another idol post here. AKB have been full steam ahead since their 20th anniversary celebrations and they haven't let up at all. The have not one, but 3 new gen aces that rival the Acchan-Yuko-Mayu combi of old, and a Kami 7 that I think will surpass their seniors. suki-ish is just one of the many new songs they've put out that clicked with me, and I can't help but sing along to it throughout the day. It's so cute, quirky and girly. Momoka is an absolute star in the center, and this is the strongest I've ever seen AKB post golden era. It's safe to say we are well into a new golden era with this line-up, and I'm so excited!

♡ Atmos - SHINee
Oh, shinee's back! I wasn't sure if I should rank this song or Anti Believer, but actually the entire album is brilliant and so shinee, no skips! I'm still a bit miffed SM did not give this release the fanfare it deserved, but I love this album so much! It's definitely in my top 5, and the main track has been on repeat since it's release. It's such a feel good song that incorporates the essence of shinee in a way that's hard to describe. If anyone was discovering them for the first time, this song, the mv, and the album would be the first thing I direct them to. 10/10

♡ Prism - Sayashi Riho
I wouldn't be me if I didn't talk about Riho's solo artistry. She has really found her own niche and it sounds great. It's nice to see her music evolve and suit her tone of voice in a way that's pleasing to the ear. Prism is that feel good pleasant song you hear while you're going shopping with your friends or running errands. It's nice to listen to when I walk from the station to work as well. Not sure if it was intentional but it makes me feel like an adult, a put together lady that's got her shit together lol.

♡ pporapippam - Sunmi
I'm not sure if I've spoken about this song on this blog before, and it wouldn't surprise me if I had, because this song has consistently been on my summer playlists since it's come out. It's the perfect end of summer song. The evening breeze. The lightheaded feeling after one too many aperol spritz. The last minute girl trip at the end of august bank holiday. The nostalgia of past summers, and how this one will pass too. It encapsulates it all perfectly, and feels so calm and nice to have on repeat. Sunmi knows how to do it.

♡ Good Goodbye - Hwasa
This is what pporapippam would sound like if it was much sadder. This is such a melancholic and bittersweet song. It makes me feel like I'm mourning the end of a great time, but also know it was the best choice for me. This is such a relaxing song to listen to in the evening or during a quiet morning walk, or while people watching in a café. This recent performance with the crowd singing along while Hwasa takes it in really moved me, so it's back on my song rotation.

♡ End roll - Ayumi Hamasaki
This song kind of gives me Nana vibes, as if I'm a young adult in Tokyo walking in the backstreets of Nakano wearing a short skirt and long sleeve turtleneck as a guy from the tobacco store heckles me drunkenly, but I ignore him because my situationship is trying to call me. LOL, it's hard to explain the type of nostalgia I have for End roll, it goes way back to my adoration of gyaru and the fashion girlies way back when. I fear this song will be on repeat all autumn.

♡ Shall we love? - Gomattou
With H!P finally on spotify this year, a lot of my old favourites have been rediscovered. I remember the exact amount of times I had to skip to the next song on my ipod nano to get back to this song, because I listened to it so often. It's so cunty LOL. This for me is the peak of hello!project musically, with the elements of RnB girl groups of old mixed with the Tsunku-ism of random musical elements and shimmery sounds in the background. And of course the utter despair and yearning in the girls' voices. It's perfection.

 Ikebukuro Sunshine - White Jam
I think this is the only song of theirs I'm fully aware of, but it's been a auto-played song for me all summer. It brings me back to Japan in a way, as if I can taste the family mart iced latte on my lips lol, so the names fitting. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a co-ed group, and I'll be honest some of the content I saw of them was shocking! Lots of fanservice and lewd BL goodness in their music videos so consider this your warning if you look them up. Their songs are otherwise so wholesome and fun, LOL.

 Junai crusher - Tsubaki Factory
Whenever it's winter I know I can count on Tsubaki to give me a song filled with heartbreak, torment, and yearning lol. Even though we're in the thick of summer, I still enjoy listening to this song. I don't want to say I'm ready for autumn already, but like End Roll, I'll be listening to this song a lot in the coming cooler months. Please watch this performance of the girls singing Junai crusher while looking absolutely ethereal in the most beautiful outfits.

Chain of life - Rain Tree
I feel like nostalgia is a strong theme in this post, and it's understandable because what else is there to do but look back fondly on good moments of your childhood? This song gives me that exact feeling, it reminds me of when I would watch girls dancing on nico douga with the special effects and sparkly scenery, and try to replicate it in my bedroom haha. It sounds so sweet, so nostalgic. The group seems to be in their early days so I hope they do well!

Nagori Zakura - AKB48
This might be a little biased of me, but I feel like I should also talk about this one because it's been out much longer and on my playlist rotation all the time. I actually feel like we didn't have enough time with this era, but that may be because I had gotten to used to the scarse single releases after covid. Nagori Sakura is such a cute feel good song that makes me feel like the future of AKB is so so bright. I think with the current lineup, I can see the group going very far!
